This n That Thursday

This n That Thursday

This: These are my two dogs.

We’ve have Sadie (L) 4 years and Rudy (R) 6.  Ever since I had the baby, I feel like the worst doggie mommy.  I don’t pay nearly enough attention to them, I’m telling them to go away more than cuddling them.  And they are so good with Haley, letting her climb on them, playing ball with her, eating all the food she doesn’t want.  I’ve tried to take all three (baby + 2 dogs) on walks, but it’s not easy pushing a stroller and holding two leashes.

THAT:  My husband and I got a deep fryer this weekend.

IMG_2321He wanted to make California Burritos (carne asada, quac, and french fries – I know I know but they’re so good) and we needed a fryer.  At first I was worried about having this fat making machine in my house and all the yummy fried food I wanted to make (I’ve never had fried Oreos) but that fear went away yesterday.  I wanted fries with lunch, so I had to go get the fryer out of the closet (we don’t have enough counter space for it to have permanent residence there), get it all set up, turn it on, wait for it to heat the oil, fry those fries.  Now the fun part, wait till everything cools, take it apart, clean the baskets, the coil, strain the oil and pour it into the jug, clean the vat (I don’t know if that’s what it’s called, but you know what I mean right) dry it all, putting it back together, putting it back in its storage place.  Maybe that doesn’t sound like much, but remember people, I’m cleaning oil.  A lot of work for a few fries.  So- I’m happy we got the fryer (those burritos were awesome) and feel we got a pretty good one (they’re all going to be a pain in the keester to clean) and since it’s kinda a whole big thing to use it, I don’t think I’ll be using it daily.  But when I get a hankering for some fried mozzarella sticks, or donuts, or some onion rings… it’s nice to have on hand.

This:  I have decided I don’t much like shopping on-line.  Please don’t hate me, I have my reasons.

1. I don’t like to wait.  I know for some that’s the fun part, but I’d much rather just go to a store and buy what I want and have it then.

2.  I can’t hold the thing in my hand.  Maybe I’ve just had bad luck, but many times I’ve received something and it didn’t look as nice as it did in the picture.

3.  I can’t try it on.  I like to try things on.

4.  When you need to return it, it’s sometimes a hassle.

I bought a denim jacket online.  I wanted a particular one and they didn’t have it in the store.  So I tried on a similar jacket at the store so I’d know what size and bought the jacket online. It took over a week to get, when I finally got it, too big. I don’t like the cut of the jacket either, very boxy.  The store will refund my money minus S&H of course, but I have to mail it back and pay for that- I can only exchange it in the store.  So basically, I just paid 10 bucks to try it on.  I love to online window shop, but when it comes time to buy, I’d rather do it the old-fashioned way… unless you just cant get that item in the store, or there is no store near me, or there is an online only special.  I still don’t like it.  If any one has any suggestions I’d love to hear.

THAT:  I still haven’t gotten the new tank for my coffeemaker.  Boo!

This n’ That Thursday

Linkin up again this Thursday with Katie and Jena for more This N That randomness!

This:  Poor Haley has been sick for almost a week now, runny nose and coughing.  It sucks so much when she’s sick because there is so little I can do to make her feel better.  That and we have not been able to see any of our friends because I would hate for her to get another little one sick.  So I took her to the doc today and all she has is a cold and a slight ear infection.  I know that’s not great, but I went in because the nurse told me it might be respiratory syntactical virus (RSV).  So some antibiotics for a little over a week and hopefully she’s be all better.

Even all sick with red cheeks and nose, big smile.

That:  I am becoming a little obsessed with the Organix product.  Last week when I said that I bought the shampoo and conditioner, Beth at a latte inspiration told me that she loves their body lotion.  My response was “OMG (and I never say OMG) they make body lotion!” and I immediately went out and bought some.  And she was right, it’s wonderful.  So thanks Beth for the suggestion.

This:  Yesterday I got pretty lucky.  I bought a Little Tikes Victorian kitchen for Haley at the consignment shop around the corner.  I was pretty stoked.  I have grown to love Kid’s Kloset.  I also got her two adorable denim skirts and a denim jacket there.  Anyway, I have wanted to get her a play kitchen since I saw the one my friend got for her daughter at Christmas but was debating if it was worth spending the money.  Well, for $40 it was worth it.  So I got it home ( I have a pretty great story about how I got it home, but it’s a bit long for today’s post), got it disinfected and now we have a tiny kitchen in our tiny kitchen.  Now plans to make a tiny apron are starting.

Sorry, no good pics right now because…

That:  My cameras and my computer are not communicating well which is no fun because I can’t get any of the photos off my cameras and into my posts, so you’re all stuck with the crappy camera phone pictures, which isn’t anything new except I was making an attempt to get some better quality pictures up (Holy run-on sentence Batman!).  This really irritates me because we finally got our nice camera back.  Let’s hope my husband can figure it out ’cause I sure can’t.

Hope every has a wonderful week.

This n That Thursdays

This:  Okay, so I realized last night that whenever I get a brand new shampoo bottle, I read the directions.  I don’t know what I’m expecting to find, I doubt there is any novel way to shampoo and/or condition my hair since the last brand I purchased.  But every time I read the directions.  Is that weird?  I think it’s a little weird.  This is my new shampoo.

So far I like it, and it doesn’t have any of that Sodium laureth sulfate or Sodium lauryl sulfate that’s supposed to be bad for your hair.  Right now it’s on sale at Walgreens for $4.99, and buy one get one 50% off.  Pretty awesome considering it’s usually $7.99.

THAT:  I changed my blog name from “Utopia is a bookstore” to “Reading, Writing, & Whatnot”…  Thought it was a good time for a change, New year, new name.  What do you think?

This:  All week long I can think of things to write on my This n That Thursday blog post, then when it comes time to write it down, BLANK!

THAT:  I had my second soccer game in two years last night.  Scored a goal and at least one assist.  I felt a lot better last night than I did the first game back.   So happy to be playing again.

This n’ That Thursdays

wpid-IMAG1084.jpgwpid-IMAG1085.jpgThis is what I woke up to this morning.  I am from Southern Cali and have only woken up to snow like once before in my life.  When I was like 8 and my family were visiting my grandparents in Red Bluff, CA.  We’ve been expecting this, but it still amazes me.  My poor doggies don’t want to go outside.  I am very excited for snow, I am just hoping the wind dies down so we can go play in it with Haley’s new sled.

And a kinda sad note, my husband had to get up at midnight last night to go to work to prepare for the snow.  He got about 4 hours of sleep last night and probably wont be home until after noon.  What a hard worker.

THAT:  I am so proud of myself.  Christmas is in less than a week and I have not given any presents.  My daughter’s cozy coupe is still sitting in the basement along with her other presents.  I think I’m going to make it!

This:  Even though I did not give any gifts, I did get one from my momma.  I got my sewing machine.  Now I just have to learn how to use it.  Spent some time threading it and “winding the bobbin” and sewed some pieces of felt together.  So if anyone has any advice or tutorials I would be very grateful.

THAT:  I finished Death Cure the other day, the last book in the Maze Runner series.  It was interesting, but I have my issues with it.  I started Kill Order, the prequel, last night.  After that I think I’m going to read The Thorn Birds again.  I caught the mini series this weekend and now I can’t get it out of my head.  I wrote about it in yesterday’s post.

Join the link up hosted by Katie and Jena.  Happy Thursday

This ‘n That Thursday

It’s week 2 of This and That Thursdays link up with Katie and Jena.  I have had major blogger’s block and haven’t written anything since last week, I better stop slackin’.

This I finished Scorch Trials (Maze Runner book 2) by James Dashner yesterday and immediately picked up Death Cure (Book 3).  This author writes some great cliffhangers! I am worried because my mom says Death Cure wasn’t good, but I am staying optimistic.

THAT I have tried to write a review for Maze Runner.  I have started it over three times and I still don’t like it. I am going to really try to get it done this weekend.

This is my new watch:

wpid-IMAG1041.jpgI got it at New York and Co for about $15 (now it’s buy one get one online here).  I really like it.  I figured it’ll hold me until I can convince my husband to get me the Real Thing, the Michael Kors Mini-Size Blair Multi-Function Glitz Watch, Rose Golden (so pretty!).

Now I want some earrings to match, some rose gold hoops sound about right.

THAT:  I hate my dishwasher.  It pretty much defeats the purpose when I have to rewash all the dishes before I put them away.  It’s basically a dirty dishes storage that rinses, a bit.

This: I made Haley a felt tree last Friday.  I got the felt pretty cheap at Wal-Mart and I used some old Christmas cookie cutters to outline the shapes.

I think I am way more interested in it than she is.  This is what happens after a few minutes.

wpid-IMAG1027.jpgShe pulls if off the wall and finds something else to do.  On the other hand, she does leave the real tree alone, so that’s good.

THAT I love Caribou Coffee.  When I lived California I would go to Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf all the time, I mean All THE TIME!  There aren’t many outside of Southern CA.  None in Houston TX, and none here in KC.  But there is Caribou Coffee, which is almost as good.  Their Berry White Mocha with milk chocolate (I guess that makes it just a berry mocha, but that’s the name on the menu)  is so good.  I have been there every day this week.

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week.
